Breaking News: Corporation workers down tools

Corporation of Hamilton workers engulf Front Street as they march to the BIU via City Hall after talks came to a halt regarding two workers who were fired. Corporation staff demanded the two employees be given their jobs back and refused to work until then.
More than 70 Corporation of Hamilton workers downed tools this morning in protest over the firing of two employees last week which workers believe was unfair and retaliatory.Last Monday, between 70 and 80 staff staged a walkout from their Dundonald Street depot to City Hall, where two Workers’ Joint Consultation Committee (JCC) representatives presented a letter outlining their grievances over a host of work-related issues.Days after the demonstration, two employees, one whom worked for the Corporation for 15 years, were fired.

Corporation of Hamilton workers have downed tools this lunchtime to stage an emergency meeting.

The session began shortly after 1 p.m. and BIU organiser George Scott is in attendance.

A union representative told The Royal Gazette: “It's about some issues. Nothing too serious. There are a few little things that we need to sort out.”
