Celebration honours work of Women's Resource Centre

The Physical Abuse Centre celebrated its 30th anniversary lauding the efforts of a partner in its campaign.

The organisation held a lunch in honour of the Women's Resource Centre for assistance in educating the community on the effects of abuse.

Acting Physical Abuse Centre director Laurie Shiell said: "As part of our anniversary celebrations we are working on giving back to the community, who have graciously supported us during these years.

"One of our decisions to give back was to celebrate an organisation that we feel works very closely in the fight against abuse, and that organisation was the Women's Resource Centre."

She added: "We own and operate the only safe house in Bermuda for women and children wanting to escape domestic abuse, and we also work with the entire family unit victims, children, and perpetrators, to end the cycle of abuse. While the Women's Resource Centre works primarily with women, they too educate the community on the detrimental effects of abuse, and we have worked with them on a number of occasions over the years, and believe that they are our closest ally.

"It was with this in mind that we decided to honour the Women's Resource Centre for their assiduous work with women in the community."
