Rev. Sharpton was a distraction – UBP

The Opposition believe US civil rights leader Al Sharpton's visit to the Island to show support for Premier Brown distracted from the real issues surrounding the decision to bring four former Guantánamo detainees to Bermuda.

Rev Sharpton visited the Island on Monday to praise Dr. Brown for showing 'moral leadership' for allowing four Uighurs to leave the US terrorist detention centre and resettle in Bermuda.

Yesterday, United Bermuda Party leader Kim Swan stated the US Congress, as the body elected to represent the American people, refused to accept the Uighurs

He said: "Instead of cheerleading the Premier's agenda, I would have hoped Mr. Sharpton would have shown some understanding for the many thousands of Bermudians who remain concerned that the rule of law on this island has been seriously set back by the actions of Dr. Brown.
