Burgess' Whitecaps taste final defeat

Tyrell Burgess couldn't prevent Vancouver Whitecaps from going down in their USL-D1 championship final against Montreal Impact.

Whitecaps, the defending champions, suffered a 3-1 defeat at home in the Saturday's second leg to lose the series 6-3 on aggregate.

Bermuda international Burgess, who only turned professional this season, came on as a substitute after 57 minutes.

Whitecaps coach Teitar Thordarson said he was proud of his team despite the defeat. "They have shown great character after all the disciplinary incidents we had during the summer and the numerous injury problems we had all year," he said."The experience that the young players have gained in getting through to the final this year is tremendous because they can take these experiences with them into next season.
