Bermuda's Tyrell Burgess could soon find himself playing Major League Soccer.

Reports from America suggest that the Vancouver Whitecaps' are expected to be soon named as the second Canadian team in the MLS.

Bob Lenarduzzi, the Whitecaps president, said he expects some sort of announcement before the MLS season opening tomorrow in Seattle when Khano Smith's New York Red Bulls take on the Sounders.

Will Kuhns, MLS director of communications, said the league has indicated in the past it would like to have the new teams named before the season begins.

The Whitecaps, who play in the United Soccer League's first division, are one of the four remaining groups hoping to be awarded one of two MLS teams for the 2011 season.

Ottawa, Portland and St. Louis have also applied for a franchise. MLS already has a team in Toronto.

Meanwhile Burgess and the Whitecaps signed off their pre-season tour of Tanzania, East Africa, with a goalless draw against the country's national team.

Bermuda winger Burgess, who joined the USL-D1 champions on a two-year contract last month, came on as a second half substitute.

During the Whitecaps' 'soccer safari', the Canadian outfit lost 3-0 to Young Africans in a game that saw Burgess receive a red card, and beat Simba 2-1.
