Two more athletes qualify for Carifta

Christian Wright and Shawn Herman have reached the qualifying standards in their respective disciplines to book their places at the Carifta Games in Cayman Islands later this year.

With the Bermuda Track and Field Association (BTFA) having to cancel their Onion Series meet on Saturday due to bad weather, the rearranged date was set for Monday, where both athletes met their required qualifying standards at the National Sports Centre (NSC).

Wright made the 'A' standard in the Under-17 boys long jump with a leap of 6.55 metres, while Herman qualified for the 5000m in the Under-20 boys category with a time of 16 minutes, 10.81 seconds, to make the 'A' standard for his event.

In overseas action, Brittany Marshall also had a good weekend at the CIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Hampton, Virginia, finishing runner-up in the shot put with a throw of 12.57m.

Marshall represented St. Augustine, the same school that Bermuda athlete Chayce Smith attends.

The BTFA will be holding a two-day Onion Series meet this weekend at the NSC.

Athletes must be registered by 9 a.m. on Saturday, and by 12.30 p.m. on Sunday.
