BSX drops lower

The Royal Gazette/Bermuda Stock Exchange Index (BSX) fell to its lowest level since November 2000 yesterday, dropping 23.92 points (1.1 percent) to 2,142.66.

The Index traded 12,000 shares worth $60,655.

Bermuda Aviation Services declined 55 cents (9.9 percent) to $5, with 700 shares changing hands, while Argus Group Holdings Ltd. slipped 50 cents (6.68 percent) to $7, as 2,500 shares were transacted.

Butterfield Bank was the only other trader, seeing 8,800 shares change hands, but its share price held firm at $4.50.

The BSX Insurance Index, however, rose 10.03 points (1.3 percent) to 777.51.

The directors of Bermuda Container Line Ltd. declared a dividend of 14 cents per share for the second quarter of 2009, payable on May 14.
