Two teenagers appeared in Magistrates' Court yesterday charged with binding and beating a 14-year-old boy and recording the attack on a BlackBerry.
Taj Browne and Tahva Virgil, both 16, pleaded not guilty to assault and to unlawfully detaining the victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons – on September 26 in Southampton.
The teenagers wore jeans and sneakers without shoelaces for the court appearance. Neither spoke during the proceedings other than to plead not guilty.
Browne was also charged with three unrelated traffic offences, to which he pleaded guilty.
Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo ordered the boys to be remanded at the Co-Ed Facility until their trial, which is scheduled to begin next month.
