Sybil Barrington to be featured in book

Mark Anderson aka“Sybil Barrington

Self-styled 'Queen of Bermuda' Sybil Barrington is set to feature in a new US book, called We Will Always Be Our Mother's Sons and Daughters: 100 Most Influential Gay Entertainers.

Author Jenettha J. Baines recently wrote to The Royal Gazette: "One of my friends and fellow Bermudians directed me to your article on Sybil Barrington, Bermuda's premiere drag queen and entertainer. I would be honoured for her to be a part of this book."

She asked for her interest to be passed on to Sybil aka Mark Anderson, who worked professionally around the world for 15 years before bringing his act home to Bermuda. When news of the invitation was broken to him yesterday evening, Mr. Anderson said he would accept the offer immediately.

"I'm just overwhelmed and just touched and really really happy that someone wants to have me be a part of their dream and aspirations in their life," he added.

He's already featured in a book called They Call Themselves Queens by Quentin Crisp and Panja Jurgen, a film called To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar, which features Wesley Snipes and Patrick Swayze, and another book called The Top Queens of New York. He said he hoped featuring in the book would promote his work even more, as although he's encountered opposition from some sectors of society: "Bermudians are now realising I've got a great show".
