Opposition Leader Kim Swan called for all Bermudians to celebrate Cup Match with peace and love.

"Cup Match is the time of year that demonstrates how a vision birthed during difficult and uncertain times, but formed in the spirit of love, can mushroom into something great.

"The origins of Cup Match are worth stating because a game developed to commemorate the emancipation of slaves in our country and has become the most universally celebrated holiday on the Bermuda calender."

He said that this year's Cup Match comes at a time when Bermuda needs to come together.

"Let us build on the spirit and make this Cup Match one to remember based on competitiveness and sportsmanship," he said.

"Let us responsibly celebrate this Cup Match free from harm, and may it be filled with love, happiness and joy."
