Impressive Sims in fine form
Michael Sims was heading for another impressive finish on the Nationwide Tour last night after firing a last round four-under-par 67 at the $600,000 Stonebrae Classic at the TPC San Francisco Bay course.
The Bermudian golfer, who earned automatic entry to the tournament after placing ninth at last week's Louisiana Open, was again in superb form in his latest outing.
Rebounding from a two-over 73 in the first round, Sims recorded a magnificent 66 in his second round to leapfrog into the top 20 and easily make the cut.
That round included an eagle and three birdies as he finished the 18-holes with a flourish ¿ three-under for the last three holes. But that form deserted him later on Saturday in the weather-delayed tournament when he struggled to a bogey-riddled six-over 77.
Putting that disappointment behind him, he surged up the learboard yesterday with his blemish-free 67 that included four birdies.
With several players still on the course at press time at last night, Sims was tied for 33, needing another top 25 finish in order to gain automatic entry to the next Nationwide Tour event.
His near namesake, Australian Michael Sim, was on course for victory as he stood at 16 under par at the turn.
Sims, who at one point in the event was at three-under, eventually finished at one-under with a 72-hole total of 283.
