Sims moves up in Texas

Bermuda's Michael Sims played a steady one-under-par round yesterday in the second round of the second stage of the PGA Tour Q School at the TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, Texas.

Sims shot a 70 in a round which included only one bogey but two birdies.

The Bermudian pro has now put himself in a position to advance to the final qualifying stage of Q School next month. The top 21 players and ties qualify from the Craig Ranch section to the third and last stage and after yesterday's round Sims was tied for 19th.

It is at the third and final stage that players can earn their Nationwide Tour card or even qualify for the PGA Tour.

Sims didn't have a good opening to his round yesterday when he bogeyed the opening par-four hole but then managed to birdie the third hole – a par four – and scored another birdie on the fifth hole – a par five. He played even par from then on.

In his opening round on Wednesday Sims carded an even-par 71 which left him tied for 28th place.

The second stage of Q School is over 72 holes with no cut.

Leading the Craig Ranch section after yesterday's second round was first-round leader Luke List on nine under. He shot a 69 to go with his 64 on Wednesday.
