Electronic manifests mean less paperwork for fliers

Form filling for air passengers has been slashed as most airlines move to sending passenger lists to authorities electronically.

Bermudians will no longer need to fill in landing cards while all residents will not be required to fill in departure cards.

This applies to all airlines apart from Zoom which is still working on an upgrade.

The changes, announced by Immigration Minister David Burch in the Senate yesterday, mean authorities can be ready to deal with high-risk passengers before they arrive as the passenger lists will be sent 15 minutes after the flight has taken off en route to Bermuda.

The lists will also help identify and follow up on people who have overstayed their permission to be in Bermuda, said Sen. Burch.
