Three-level restaurant for Front Street

Plans have been submitted for a three-storey restaurant and bar opposite the Hamilton Ferry Terminal.

Yellowfin Limited wants to convert retail space in the Somers Building into a restaurant "with superb views towards the harbour".

In a letter to Planning, agent Entasis Architecture says the addition of a third storey will help to "create a destination that will make a major contribution to the vitality of the City".

Entasis states: "A three-level restaurant and bar in such a prime location satisfies several of the key objectives of the City of Hamilton Plan 2001.

"A new restaurant in this location will be a welcome addition to the Front Street experience following the loss of the popular Harbourfront Restaurant to a new office development on the neighbouring site to the east."

The design includes a private lounge area on the first floor and a patio for al fresco dining on the third.
