A teenage sailor had to be evacuated from a US warship after suffering an eye injury.

The 18-year-old was transported to Bermuda by helicopter, arriving on the Island on Thursday evening. He was then taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital by ambulance.

A Bermuda Maritime Operations spokesman said the warship was 250 miles south-south east of Bermuda when the crew member was evacuated.
