Eagles confident of flying high against Parish
Somerset Eagles players Marcel Dill and Antwan Russell are quietly confident that their side have what it takes to get to the FA Cup final when they lock horns in the second semi-final of the prestigious tournament against Hamilton Parish at Somerset Cricket Club on Sunday.
Devonshire Cougars, who beat North Village on penalties and won the first semi-final, will be awaiting the winner.
The Premiership new boys have had an encouraging season in their first season back in the top flight, while rivals Parish are again in the middle of a relegation battle, setting the match up for what should be an exciting affair.
Both Dill and Russell admitted that the prospect of going to a major Cup final would be a bonus for the club and a step in the right direction.
"It will be a success in our season just to get to the final, so we are looking forward to winning this game," said Russell. "It will give us confidence going into next year if we could make the final and even win it, especially for the younger guys who will be able witness and experience a Cup semi and a final if we get there.
"They can learn from the experience and look to strive for bigger and better things."
Russell for one is wary of the threat Parish possesses considering they are in a relegation dogfight for the top-flight status, something that could play into Eagles' hands.
But no matter what team they face tomorrow, the striker is insisting that the experienced players on his team need to produce the goods on the day.
"They have to win every game they play, and we want to win every game as well.
"They are playing for their survival and coming to a match like this they may want to show everyone that they have the ability to play at this level so they will give us everything they got.
"The more experienced players on our side of the pitch need to step up, including myself, Keishen (Bean), Darrin (Dowling), Aquino (Grant) – players who have played in matches of this magnitude. "
For Dill, getting to the final will be a completion of one of the goals at the beginning of the season, and will also get their club one step closer to potentially their first ever Cup triumph.
"At the beginning of the season we set our sights on at least a midtable finish and a good run in the Cup competitions and so far we are on course for that," said Dill. "This is a chance for us to win a Premiership trophy which would the first in our club's history so we will just try to stay focused for the entire 90 minutes, play to the best of our abilities and hopefully secure a finals spot against Cougars.
"We know Hamilton Parish have some quality players in their ranks so we will not be taking their position in the league for granted.
"They have had some very good FA Cup runs over the years and they will b up for this game just as much as us so it may come down to who wants it the most."
