A motorcyclist caught at a Police checkpoint driving under the influence of alcohol has been fined and banned from the roads.
Darren Wiper, 35, encountered officers stationed on Crow Lane, Pembroke, at 1.40 a.m on Saturday, May 3.
According to Senior Crown counsel Paula Tyndale, they observed that he was unsteady on his motorcycle and wobbled to the near side of the road as he approached the checkpoint.
When asked to stop, Wiper had trouble putting his bike on its stand, and his breath smelled of alcohol. He admitted: "I had three beers when I finished work."
Acting Magistrate Nicole Stoneham fined Wiper, of Khyber Heights Lane, Warwick, $1,000. She also handed him ten demerit points and banned him from driving for a year.
