Man jailed for stealing bike
A man who stole a postal worker's cycle and led Police on a high-speed chase was sentenced to six months imprisonment yesterday in Magistrates' Court.
Lamell Steede, 34, of Swansbay Hill, in Pembroke, admitted stealing a black Suzuki Bravo cycle, issued to Post Office employees, outside the Mangrove Bay Post Office in Sandys, on March 28.
The court heard that Steede was riding the stolen cycle when he spotted Police conducting speed checks in the area and made a sudden u-turn to avoid them.
The move was suspicious to Police, who pursued Steede on a high-speed chase through the west end of the Island. The pursuit ended when Steede eventually lost control of the cycle.
His sentence will serve concurrent to a nine month sentence he is currently serving on another matter.
