Shoplifter locked up

A homeless man was yesterday sentenced to 30 days in prison after stealing $12 worth of goods from the Dollar Depot Store.

Gregory Minors, 39, pleaded guilty to stealing two packs of Rodex men's shirts, each valued at $6, on July 30 from the store on North Shore Road in Hamilton Parish. The court heard that at 12.50 p.m., Minors was seen pacing through the store aisles and later appeared at the cashier's desk to ask for some headbands.

The cashier grew suspicious of Minors who was making a crunching noise as he moved and had a bulge underneath his clothes.

The cashier notified the Police, who arrived on the scene at 1.10 p.m. and observed the same suspicious behaviour. He was taken to Hamilton Police Station where he admitted to the theft and told Police he was under the influence of drugs at the time.

In Magistrates' Court yesterday, Minors said he planned to pay for the shirts and had the money on him at the time of the offence.
