Suspect dropped drugs when Police stopped car

A Sandys man was fined yesterday in Magistrates' Court after 1.17 grammes of cannabis was found in his possession in 2006.

Odell Gilbert Smith, 24, of Daniel's Head Lane, was stopped by Police in relation to another matter, on April 8, 2006.

Around 11.30 p.m. Police asked Smith to get out of his car and noticed he was fidgeting with his left hand in his left pocket. They watched as Smith dropped an article containing a plant-like material on the ground.

When Smith was cautioned by Police he made no reply and was subsequently taken to Hamilton Police Station where the plastic twist was submitted for analysis.

Smith was bailed to appear back at Hamilton Police Station in July of 2006, but he told the court that the Police weren't there when he showed up. He was fined $800 for the offence.

While in Magistrates' Court he also pleaded guilty to driving an unlicenced vehicle and having no third party insurance; he was fined $750 and $1,000 respectively for the traffic offences and ordered to pay by September 25.
