New –St. George alderman sworn in

St. George Mayor Kenny Bascome swears in Steven Hollis as the new St. Georges Town Alderman Thursday in the Town Hall. Wednesday the Corporation held a nomination day to fill the Alderman vacancy which was left after Mr. Beau Evans resigned from the post in May of this year, Mr. Hollis, name was the only one in the hat so the Corporation felt there was no need for an election and the former St. George Councilor became Alderman automatically.
Steven Hollis was named the newest alderman in the Corporation of St. George this week.Mr. Hollis, who had been acting as a common councillor, was the only person nominated.He fills a space created when Beau Evans stepped down from the position earlier this year.

Corporation secretary Nancy Hooper said that an election will be held in the near future for a new common councillor.
"Mr. Hollis was the only one who had his name put forward, so there was no need to have a competition," said Ms. Hooper.
"However, there could be a competition for councillor position."
Ms. Hooper said the election date will be announced in the near future.
