Must have a moustache
Competitive moustache growers will be comparing their facial hair at a party to raise money in the fight against prostate cancer.
The fund-raisers have turned November into 'Movember' as part of an international initiative to promote men's health issues — and are being sponsored to see who can grow the most hair on their upper lip throughout the month.
Their contest culminates in a prize-giving ceremony at Front Street's Level nightclub on Saturday night, when a 'Man of Movember' will be announced and other awards handed out for best style moustaches.
One of the organisers, Keenan Press, said: "One in six men will get prostate cancer, while only one in ten men have moustaches. Movember's goal is to decrease the former while increasing the latter."
Nicole Tovey, a 'mo-sister' who has been generating support for the moustache growers throughout the month, is an expat from Australia, where Movember began three years ago.
She said: "Movember aims to bring male health into the spotlight, and raise money to support research, treatment and cure of the number one male health issue, prostate cancer. Movember has taken off around the world and we saw it as a great opportunity to raise awareness in Bermuda."
It's still not too late to sponsor somebody taking part — although any clean shaven people hoping to make a last-minute bid to join the contest are facing an uphill task to produce an impressive walrus in what's left of Movember.
The Level event is from 9 p.m., admission $20 at the door, with all proceeds going to benefit research and a cure for prostate cancer. Dress code is Mo Town.
