KeyTech buys remaining third of Cayman firm WestTel

KeyTech Ltd. is set to rename its newly-acquired Cayman-based telecommunications provider WestTel Ltd. as Logic Communications Ltd. as of next month, according to a report in the Caymanian Compass yesterday.

The name change, which comes into effect on October 1, resulted from the sale of sister company WestStar TV's 33 percent stake in WestTel after it agreed to transfer its remaining shares in the company to KeyTech, pending approval by the country's Information, Communication and Technology Authority.

KeyTech, which has steadily increased its shareholding in WestTel since the start of its partnership with WestStar TV in 2004, already owned 67 per cent of the shares in WestTel and following the completion of the transaction would hold all of the company's shares.

WestTel currently provides voice, data and utility computing services, and the key activities for Logic in the coming months will include the next phase of its fibre network project which will roll services out across George Town. Creating underground deployment entirely separate from other providers, the project will provide significant investment in local infrastructure and employment opportunities for local contractors, company officials said. KeyTech previously said it plans to expand WestTel's fibre-optic cable network in Cayman and the move to achieve 100 percent ownership reflected its commitment to the jurisdiction.
