Leverock bowls perfect game

Chris Leverock joined an exclusive club of bowlers on Monday night when he bowled a perfect 300 game as his team, The Royal Gazette, drew with Kingpins 2-2 in the Commercial League at Warwick Lanes.

Leverock had come close to achieving the feat already this season before reaching the magic mark.

"I've never done it before but it feels good to reach this achievement," said Leverock yesterday.

"It was a long time coming, but I'm glad I reached that mark.

"I had a few other games that were pretty close but never got to the finish line, so this time around I managed to get the game right and hit 12 strikes.

Although relaxed about the achievement, Leverock was pleased with the how he handled the pressure as it became clear he could get to 300.

With the accomplishment now complete, the veteran of more than a decade in the sport reckoned it was more nerve racking than he had imagined.

"It didn't really surprise me to get the perfect game, like I said I have been close already this year, so it was about just holding my nerve. As the game was going on it looked like I could do it, so I told myself don't get excited, keep composed.

"Of course, nervousness was there but I took a few deep breaths before each delivery to make sure I was focused.

"Now I can refocus on my game and see if I can do it again."
