The following letter was written to Director of Youth and Sport, Norbert Simons yesterday, and copied to The Royal Gazette:
Dear Mr. Simons,
As I am sure you are aware our national swim team have just completed competition in Aruba at the CARIFTA Games.
In a word they had an 'awesome' Games, securing a total of 12 medals, including a number of gold medals, as well as setting CARIFTA Games records and multiple national records. In addition, many of those who did not win medals set numerous personal best times.
They return to the Island tomorrow evening (today) on the New York flight at 9.00 p.m.
I think it would be a great experience for the swimmers, coaches and managers if the Minister could be at the airport to meet them and acknowledge the wonderful results they achieved.
These young athletes spend considerable hours training, six to seven times a week in preparation for these international events that of course bring great credit and pride to Bermuda.
I hope that the Minister is available to welcome them home.
