Roy looking to build on Jack Daniels lead

Dwayne Pearman and Scott Roy are the hot favourites when they tee off today at Port Royal on the Jack Daniels Golf Tour – the official tour of the PGA of Bermuda.

Today's tournament is one of the "majors" on the local tour and the purse is $2,250.

Pearman and Roy are both Port Royal specialists but there a few dark horses – namely Andrew Bissell who has been in Europe for the last six weeks working on his game.

Also there is Cornell Bean who knows the course so well and with his new putter he could be ready to take first place.

The senior professionals get to play from the forward tees and as a result could be serious competition.

Bobby McRonald could be a contender from this group as he has been working hard on his game for some time.

The weather forecast calls for relatively calm conditions – especially compared to the wind that Bermuda has experienced for the last couple of months – and low scores are expected.

There are a few notable absences from today's event but who are expected to make a serious run later on in the year – Anthony Mocklow and Jason Epstein have impressive records in the US and it will be interesting if they can translate this form in Bermuda.

Double points are available at this tournament and Roy is in the lead by three.

The prize giving will be held at Flanagan's Outback bar at 6 p.m. today after play with the PGA of Bermuda AGM following immediately afterwards.
