No major ownership changes at Daniel's Head eco-resort

There has been no major change in the ownership of Daniel's Head eco-resort, general manager Richard Quinn has told The Royal Gazette , countering reports the resort was changing hands for the second time in 12 months.

"All that is happening is there is a change in the holding percentages from Destination Villages to Excel Legacy,'' he said. "Destination Villages is still involved in the resort but not to the extent they were.'' Mr. Quinn said that the actual change in holdings between the two investors had yet to be determined, but finanical backer Excel Legacy Corporation of Delaware will be taking on a larger role.

"Excel Legacy has always been the financial force behind the resort. They're looking to put more money into it, and therefore, would like more involvement in its development,'' he said.

Excel Legacy put forth the original $8-million investment for the resort.

The resort is still hoping to open on time after a four-month closure to complete the remaining tents and spruce up the facilities.

Mr. Quinn said the 115 eco-tents are still on line for completion and re-opening in May of this year.

"Pretty well all of the units are done now,'' he said. "We're doing work to some of the buildings on the property to add that particular Bermudian character.''
