Darrell succeeds Dill
Commission.
He will succeed Kenneth Dill who was recently promoted to Director of Human Affairs.
Mr. Darrell is a Bermudian with an extensive professional background in social and behavioural issues in Canada and Bermuda.
His experience includes managing residential facilities for the Children's Aid Society in Toronto and Yorklea Children's Lodges in East York, Ontario.
From 1984 to 1992, he was a correctional officer for the Vanier Centre for Women in Brampton, Ontario, where he designed and conducted human rights training courses for the Ministry of Correctional Services and also received training in crisis management, diffusion of hostility and dispute resolution.
In 1992, Mr. Darrell was seconded for a year as a human rights officer to the Ontario Human Rights Commission Special Task Force.
His experience in Canada also included three years as an education and communication consultant with the Employment Equity Department of the Ontario Government's Ministry of Transportation.
On his return to Bermuda in 1997, Mr. Darrell joined the Government as Assistant Labour Relations Officer and subsequently moved to the Department of Personnel Manager.
Mr. Darrell is a graduate of the Berkeley Institute and holds a Bachelor of Theology degree in social administration from the William Booth Memorial College and a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology and political science from the University of Southern California.
He has gained additional professional development in the areas of equal employment, worker's compensation, conciliation and mediation.
Mr. Darrell's responsibilities in his new post will involve promoting understanding and acceptance of the Human Rights Act and encouraging compliance with it.
