Meanwhile, Government House has revealed that it is looking to hire a consultant who is a former DPP to advise Mr. Tokunbo.

Deputy Governor Tim Gurney refused to reveal the identity of the former DPP whom Government House is hoping will assist Mr. Tokunbo.

The aim is to provide legal and managerial back-up to ensure the office runs smoothly.

The British Government has learned from mistakes made when the Crown Prosecution Service in England was reformed when it lacked proper managerial input.

Mr. Gurney is refusing to confirm that Governor Thorold Masefield has offered the DPP's post to Mr. Tokunbo, but said yesterday: "The Governor has made an offer to a candidate for the post of DPP and we look forward to being able to confirm someone in the post in tne very near future.

"We are concerned to pursue ways of ensuring the future DPP has access to a broad range of facilities to ensure he does the job as well as possible.

"These could include an office manager and identifying someone who may provide advice as necessary on the operation of the DPPs office.

"The work will be a blend of legal opinion, experience, and management so we are looking at a good civil service manager, and identifying someone who has experience of being a DPP who could assist if the occasion arises.'' Mr. Tokunbo did not return calls to The Royal Gazette yesterday.
