ambitious plans to host leading American entertainers.

Comedians and top US disc jockeys from radio stations in Chicago and New York, such as Kiss FM, are being lined up.

New marketing manager Mr. Clarke Burgess said The Spinning Wheel was trying to attract a more mature clientele.

"By getting back to the basics we hope to re-establish the Spinning Wheel as the premier nightspot for the over-25 crowd,'' he said.

"Dress code will be smart casual and patrons will be screened to ensure that a decent standard of good, clean fun awaits those who venture into the Gable Lounge and nightspot.'' The Spinning Wheel's dance floor is now the biggest of any nightclub in Hamilton and seating capacity has been increased to 400 upstairs and 150 downstairs.

The main dance area has undergone extensive renovations. Two studio apartments have been taken out and replaced by a bar on a raised platform overlooking the dance floor.

Membership has been introduced for the Club's Gable Lounge, which itself has undergone comprehensive improvements.

Mr. Burgess said: "The facilities here are now second to none and patrons can expect an extremely comfortable, pleasant and safe environment in which to enjoy a night out.

"It is also cheap with a cover charge of only $3, which compares favourably with any nightclub in Bermuda.'' Thursdays have become `Ladies Nights', when women are allowed in free of charge.

Mr. Burgess added: "Over the years the management of the Spinning Wheel have attempted to respond to the needs of the community.

"Recognising that there were a limited amount of activities for the youth the Spinning Wheel organised and hosted many youth dances, known as sessions. They were very successful.

"Unfortunately certain incidents threatened the long-term interests of the Spinning Wheel.

"This caused a re-think and it was decided that this particular juncture it was time to get back to basics, providing entertainment for a slightly older and more mature crowd.'' Mr. Burgess said the club will continue to hold the occasional dancehall style session for young people.
