Football star Bascome delivers inspiration and hope to youngsters

Inspiring message: David Bascome talks to Victor Scott Students about why it's so important to stay away from the dangers of gang life and illicit substances.

Former professional football player David Bascome, now a motivational speaker, has encouraged Victor Scott Primary School students not to give up hope on education.

In a brief, but meaningful message delivered as part of the Hope for Life bus tour, Mr. Bascome captivated the young students as he used visual stimulation and an animated approach to get his message across.

The Hope For Life programme is an anti violence / anti drug educational initiative founded by Mr. Bascome, aimed at teaching youths about the importance of making the right life choices.

The tour started on Monday. Schools visited include CedarBridge Academy and Sandys Secondary Middle School.

"We are going to call this day 'Remembrance Day', so that we all remember that it's never too late to be successful," the soccer player told Victor Scott students yesterday.

He explained that in order to get from a dock to the 'Island of Success' one must not give up. He advised the students to persist even in the face of 'rough waters' such as poor grades, failures and opposition, as this would eventually lead to their success.

Minister of Labour, Home Affairs and Housing David Burch, also attended the presentation.
