Jones triumphant at Golf Channel event
Young Bermuda golfer Nick Jones placed first on Sunday in the Golf Channel's amateur tour event at the Champions Gate National Course.
Jones shot a one-over par 73 on the 7,128 yard course in Orlando, Florida. He carded one birdie and two bogeys and beat his nearest rival Nick Fernandez by four strokes in the Championship flight.
On the previous weekend, Jones led the tournament after his opening round at the Golf Channel's Hall of Fame Major championship at the World Golf Village at St. Augustine in Florida when he shot a one-under par 71. But he was unable to hang on and finished in fourth place after a disappointing 80 on the final day.
Jones is currently at the Golf Academy of America in Orlando.
He is on a 16-month course, at the end of which he will decide whether he wants to try his hand as a tournament player or become a full-time club professional.
He is competing in as many amateur tournaments as he can as he builds up to the Bermuda Stroke Play Championships in June.
