Handgun found outside Paget home

Armed Police and K9 units searched around a Paget home yesterday morning after a firearm was found in the "periphery" of the property.

A Police spokesperson said officers responded to an incident in the Cobbs Hill area around 7.45 a.m. a firearm was found at that time.

It has not yet been revealed what type of firearm it was, but Police confirmed that no shots were fired and the gun had not been brandished.

Police yesterday blocked off access to the home for a period as they combed the area for more information.

"We urge the public to provide any information regarding weapons and locations," a spokesperson said. "The information will be treated sensitively and, if necessary, officers will talk anonymously to anyone who is fearful of repercussions.

"Also, anyone who may have any information regarding the location of a firearm is encouraged to contact the independent Crime Stoppers hotline on 800-8477."
