Top fashion stylist to give advice at Gibbons Co's 'Summer in the City'
He's worked with stars such as Alicia Keys, Queen Latifah, Chris Rock and Chilli of TLC, and now fashion stylist Wouri Vice will be on hand in Bermuda for people seeking top tips and advice. Mr. Vice is taking part in a 'Summer in the City' event, presented by Gibbons Company and StyleBermuda.com, tomorrow.
"I was introduced to the world of styling through reading credits in magazines and figuring out what that position was," said Mr. Vice. "I was heavily influenced by Hip Hop artists and listening to people like (the late) Biggie Smalls who were saying that they were getting clothes from their stylists.
"So I thought, 'what does a stylist do?' I kind of figured it out and thought this is something that I'd like to do."
He added: "Friends were always like, 'help me get dressed' or 'does this shoe go with this dress' or is it 'stockings no stockings'. I found myself actually doing it without myself even knowing I was doing it."
Mr. Vice said he was looking forward to helping shoppers put outfits together for their body types. "For the long and lean babe, I would suggest that she wears clothing that is accessible for her height, because she'll be dressing more for her height than her weight," he said. "I would have to see her body, but she can wear slacks, she can wear minis you know things that accentuate her legs, but then you'd have to break down whether she has a short or long torso and things of that nature."
He added: "It is about accepting your body, I don't care if you are long and lean or a bigger Barbie, pleasingly plump or whatever, you have to accept who you are first and foremost and then you have to move from there. After that pretty much, everything else is pretty much secondary."
Mr. Vice has been to the Island several times and was also here as Alicia Keys' fashion stylist during the Bermuda Music Festival 08. He has come to love all things Bermudian including Art Mels Spicy Dicey's fish sandwiches. "The first thing that I look for when I step off the plane an Art Mels fish sandwich."
The event takes place at Gibbons Company tomorrow from noon to 4 p.m.
