Impaired biker in Sandys was not wearing a helmet

A Pembroke man caught riding his cycle without a helmet admitted to drink driving yesterday in Magistrates' Court.

Dan William Farias, 41, was caught riding his cycle in an erratic manner on Malabar Road in Sandys.

Officers on mobile patrol in the area grew suspicious of the rider and asked him to pull over around 2.18 a.m. last Thursday.

They saw that Farias, of Fourth Avenue, had difficulty putting his motorcycle on the stand. They also noticed he smelt strongly of intoxicants and that his eyes were glazed.

Farias admitted he had a few drinks on a boat with friends, the court heard.

When cautioned further by Police he said: "You got me I am caught. I am almost home, just around the corner."

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner fined him $1,000 and seven demerit points. He also disqualified Farias from the Island's roads for 12 months.
