Money printer warns of paper problem

LONDON (AP) — De La Rue, the British company which prints bank notes for more than 150 countries, says that its profits will go down because of a problem with paper it uses.

De La Rue said yesterday that some employees had deliberately falsified certification tests on some batches of paper. It says it has reported its findings to law enforcement authorities.

Although the company says all paper is now meeting specifications, it expects a £35 million ($54 million) reduction in pretax profit in the first half of its financial year.

In the latest full year ending March 27, De La Rue reported a pretax profit of £96.6 million.

De La Rue shares were down five percent at midday at 668 pence.
