BA draws up takeover list
LONDON (AP) - British Airways plc. (BA) chief executive Willie Walsh has drawn up a list of 12 airlines as potential acquisition targets once BA's merger with Spain's Iberia is complete.
Mr. Walsh said at the launch of a code-sharing agreement with India's Kingfisher on Sunday that the ambition of the combined new company "is to consolidate this industry further".
He says no discussions have taken place yet.
Walsh has not named airlines on the shortlist, but analysts believe it includes budget airlines as well as full-service carriers in Brazil, India and China.
Any additions would be brought under the umbrella of the new holding company formed by the BA and Iberia merger - International Airlines Group.
BA failed in an attempt to buy Australian flag carrier Qantas Airways Ltd. in 2008.
