An 80-year-old woman was arrested for alleged drunk driving – but refused to give a breath sample to the Police.

A Police spokesman said officers were on patrol in the early hours of yesterday when they noticed a car swerving in and out of its lane, with the driver intermittently applying the brakes.

They stopped the car in Paget and noticed that the senior behind the wheel had red eyes, slurred speech, and a strong smell of alcohol on her breath.

She was taken to Hamilton Police Station, but refused to participate in a breath test.
