Customers report glitches after Digicel upgrades network to 3G+
Digicel's network underwent a major upgrade during the early hours of Sunday morning in preparation for the launch of its new state of the art 3G+ network - but it was not without its problems.
Customers have been transferred onto a new and elite telecommunications hardware that will support the Digicel 3G+ network. The move is considered to be a big step towards providing a network technology available in only a few countries around the world.
The mobile phone provider said that some issues had been experienced during the system upgrade, but most were quickly resolved and its technical team was working on any outstanding issues, while keeping its customers updated of the latest developments.
Some Digicel cutomers informed this newspaper that they had experienced unusual problems on Sunday, including dropped calls and difficulties with the voicemail system.
The new network, like the current one, will be able to support the iPhone and Digicel claims that, once launched, its 3G+ network will be the most suitable provider for iPhones due to faster network speeds.
Digicel has asked any customers experiencing issues to contact its customer care call centre by dialling 611 from their Digicel mobile phones or 500-5611 from any phone.
