Salvation Army launches Christmas assistance programme

The Salvation Army is hoping to bring loads of Christmas cheer to thousands of needy people this year.

The charity is kicking off its annual Christmas assistance programme and is now asking residents to sign up if they need help this holiday season.

The charity provided assistance to 2,440 people last year and expects even bigger numbers this Christmas due to the poor economy.

The Salvation Army will be joining forces with community members and corporate partners to ensure the programme is a success.

Major Shawn Critch, Divisional Commander for the charity, said: "The continued trust and confidence of the public in the work and mission of The Salvation Army is something that we do not take for granted. Together we can share in giving hope to those who need us most."

People looking to get help this holiday season can register at the Community and Family Services office on 44 King Street in Hamilton or call 292-5159.

Individuals or organisations interested in partnering or volunteering can call the office on 537-6455.
