Douglas set for Bermuda debut

Under-19 World Cup batsman Chris Douglas is set to make his senior national team debut in Toronto next week.

The promising left-hander trained yesterday at the National Sports Centre (NSC) with the senior squad who are preparing for their Triangular Series against the West Indies and fellow ICC Associates Canada.

Douglas, as well as seasoned campaigners Lionel Cann, Delyone Borden and Ryan Steede, were invited to train with the squad this week. However, as of yesterday, only Douglas had taken up the offer.

Skipper Irving Romaine reckons a player of Douglas' calibre will be an asset to the squad if chosen.

"It's definitely good to have Chris in the set up and he has come with a positive attitude and looks good in the nets.

"He is eager to play and hopefully if selected he will go out there and do positive things," Romaine said.

Douglas, who debuted in this year's Cup Match for challengers Somerset, is now favourite to replace out-of-touch James Celestine who has been ruled out through work commitments.

The Warwick opener has been consistently among the runs during this season and his off-break spin can also come in handy.

The squad leaves for Toronto on Sunday.
