Now to recognise Breast Cancer Awareness Month next month people are being encourage to take part in a photographic exhibition highlighting the issue.

The Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre (BCHC) has partnered with Gibbons Company and the Kaleidoscope Arts Foundation to launch a unique expression of support – '1 in 8 – Busting Out', an exhibit of bra-inspired art.

The aim is to raise awareness of breast cancer and survivorship.

"The statistics are alarming when pictured as part of one's life," said BCHC's Deborah Titterton Narraway, who suggested people take pictures of picture eight women in their lives.

"Which of them will be diagnosed with breast cancer? Start supporting your friends now," she said.

The Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre is hoping people will donate a ready-to-hang, bra-inspired piece of art in support of cancer survivors, those living with breast cancer, those who have lost their battle, and those yet to be diagnosed.

Participants are also encouraged to donate their artwork to BCHC for future awareness campaigns and/or fund-raising events. Kaleidoscope Arts Foundation Elliot Gallery facilities coordinator Laura Lyons said: "We encourage all artists, first timers and professionals, to create for '1 in 8 – Busting Out'. It will be an exhibit of support to raise awareness of breast cancer and aid for those diagnosed.

"KAF looks forward to welcoming the public to The Elliot Gallery for what we are sure will be a fantastic exhibit."

Submissions will be placed on exhibit at the Elliot Gallery, October 15 to October 31. Funds raised through the exhibit will go towards establishing high quality cancer support information services for newly diagnosed patients.

Entry forms can be picked up at Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre on 46 Point Finger Road, the Lingerie Department of Gibbons Company and Kaleidoscope Arts Foundation, 27 Jubilee Road, Devonshire (corner of Jubilee Road and Parsons Lane).
