Southampton power disruption

Residents in Southampton are to lose power on Saturday as Belco crews complete work in the Church Road area.

The electricity company advised customers in that neighbourhood that "there will be a full-day, emergency power interruption" from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

"Belco is doing the work on a Saturday, rather than during the week, because Port Royal School and Chatterbox Preschool are in the affected area. This interruption is required, so that crews can safely transfer wires to a new pole on Church Road and do related work in underground vaults," said a spokesperson.

The following areas will be affected: St. Anne's Church, Church Road and Turtle Bay Lane. Crescent and Drive. Also to be affected are homes on Welcome Place, Port Royal Lane, Gardens and Mews, Admiral Lane and the related portion of South Road.

Belco thanked customers for their cooperation, saying the work is essential to "maintain and enhance system reliability".
