Teen beaten with helmets outside school

A gang of motorcyclists attacked a teenager with crash helmets after setting on him as he left Berkeley Institute.

The 17-year-old victim, from Devonshire, was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital with minor bruising following the incident on Wednesday at about 1.40 p.m. Police say the suspects escaped.

Berkeley principal Michelle Simmons yesterday refused to comment.

In another school related incident on Wednesday, a 15-year-old CedarBridge Academy student hit a bus driver in the face, causing swelling and breaking his glasses.

That incident happened at 4.25 p.m. when the driver, a 52-year-old Devonshire man, stopped outside St. David's Primary School. The boy was arrested.

Last month, a 14-year-old female Berkeley student was arrested after allegedly hitting a Warwick Academy girl at Hamilton Bus Terminal.

And last week a student was expelled and several more suspended after a scrap among Saltus Grammar School pupils at the Bulls Head Car Park.
