Blakeney reflects on untimely dismissal

Star batsman Glenn Blakeney was nearly at a loss for words following Bermuda's humbling 60-run defeat at the hands of minnows Afghanistan.

Much hinged on Blakeney's bat and as long as he remained at the crease so too did Bermuda's hopes of pulling down 240 for victory.

However, shortly after recording Bermuda's third half-century in South Africa and adding 118 runs for the third wicket with Stephen Outerbridge (62), Blakeney got an inside edge and was bowled for a well-played 68 that included eight boundaries off 104 balls in 120 minutes.

"Unfortunately I played back to a ball that stayed low, got an inside edge, and played on. But that's the game of cricket," he told The Royal Gazette.

Blakeney was dismissed attempting to force the issue after Bermuda fell well behind the required run rate.

"It was definitely a setback, Stephen and I got set in and kept telling ourselves we were going to try and bat until the last ten overs and then try and push it a bit," he added.

"Those guys bowled a good line and length and never tried to do anything special. They just put the ball on the mark and let us make the mistakes and obviously I am disappointed."

Irving Romaine, the Bermuda captain, added: " I thought Glenn and Stephen played well. They hung in there to try and give us a chance but the run rate just climbed."
