Boulevard will bounce back in cup – Gibbons

Boulevard defender Ajani Gibbons has urged his team to put their defeat to Devonshire Cougars behind them and book a place in the FA Cup finals when they tackle Southampton Rangers.

Gibbons has backed Blazers' "pride and courage" to see them through against underdogs Rangers who they face tonight at Devonshire Rec. at 9 p.m.

"It's a must win for us," said Gibbons, whose team lost 1-0 to title challengers Cougars at the weekend. "We want to put it all on the line for this.

"We had a good game on Sunday against Cougars, so we want to continue the pride and courage we have shown all season.

"Even though we lost that game, we worked hard but a few decisions went against us.

"We know that this is the last thing we are realistically playing for, so we need to come out hard from the outset."

The Pembroke side lost on penalties to Dandy Town in the Dudley Eve final, a game in which they were up 1-0 within the first 15 minutes and then grabbed an equaliser at the death courtesy of Gibbons to send the match into a penalty shootout.

With Blazers' title hopes fading, Gibbons is desperate for a piece of silverware to signal a year of hard work and dedication – and insisted there would be no tired legs on the pitch.

"There won't be a knock on effect from the weekend. Everyone is pretty much cool, apart from one niggling injury so we will be ready for the game," he said.

"The games against Rangers have always been close affairs and we expect no different tonight.

"It's important that we win this match, not only for ourselves but for the fans as well.

"They have supported us all season and for ourselves who have come close in a lot of competitions.

"We have worked hard and it's time to get some reward.

"Winning the FA Cup would be a big plus for us, some sort of redemption you could say.

"We have to put the league behind us right now and look forward to tonight.

"I think if we can win tonight we will win the Cup."

Blazers were in the FA Cup finals in 2007, losing to Devonshire Colts in extra time.

Blazers and Rangers have had some fascinating matches this year with a 2-2 draw in the first meeting at BAA Field, with the reverse fixture at Southampton Oval ending 2-1 in favour of the visitors.
