Boulevard looking to close gap on rivals

Boulevard will be looking to apply pressure on the teams above them tomorrow when they tackle Hamilton Parish at Wellington Oval, knowing three points could see them go top if results go their way.

Currently third, Blazers are two points behind leaders Devonshire Cougars and one point behind Dandy Town.

With games against the top two coming up, Boulevard know dropped points against teams below then them will be a serious blow to their title challenge.

Striker Angelo Simmons wants his side to signal their intent by claiming three points with the chance of the 'Double' still on the cards.

Blazers dumped Prospect United out of the FA Cup last Sunday, and will be looking to carry that form into tomorrow.

"I know this weekend could be a defining moment for a lot of clubs as they push for the league so we need to get our job done and not worry about the others," said Simmons

"We have to play with confidence because on paper we have the strongest team in the league, but we need to just play our ball and grind out the games that will push our resolve to the limit.

"The bottom teams will be the trickier games as they are playing for survival, so there won't be any easy games."

One key component to the Blazers' machine is coach Andrew Bascome who has transformed the side from constant under-achievers to genuine challengers in his first season.

"Having coach Bascome on our side gives us an extra advantage as he has been there and done that in regards to winning trophies in Bermuda, so it is important to have a coach like that.

"He has ways of getting players to dig deep in the face of adversity and show what we can do. But it is up to us to get the results to keep us in contention for both FA and League.

"Sunday we are looking for three points, nothing less will do as we want the league title if we had to choose of the two to go for."

Gibbons, who scored in his side's 3-2 Friendship Trophy semi-final defeat to PHC, also believes that his team are ready to snatch all silverware remaining. "We want both the League and FA Cup," said Gibbons.

"We are slowly getting our full squad back, but you wouldn't notice that we are undermanned with the depth in our squad.

"We don't want any excuses for our results, we want to go out and fight in every game, regardless of the situation. The side has the heart of champions and a trophy would make the season one to remember.

"Losing on penalties in the Dudley Eve and knocked out in the semis of the Friendship has us more focused then ever to make this season a success, not only for the players, but for our loyal fans."
