Meeting to focus on energy policy

The Department of Energy is inviting the Bermudian public to the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences (BIOS) tomorrow evening as part of the Government's National Energy Policy initiative.

The meeting will focus on the production and potential of bio-fuel in Bermuda and will include presentations by Stephen Walsh and Gerry Plumley. Mr. Walsh represents Bermuda Biodiesel Ltd., which uses used cooking oil to produce biodiesel, which runs in any diesel engine, producing less waste and costing less than regular fuels.

Mr. Plumley, who works with BIOS, will discuss the concept of using 'micro-algae' as a feedstock to produce clean bio-fuel, with the algae production actually removing carbon dioxide from the air instead of contributing more.

"We invite you to once again come out and be a part of the development of the Government's important National Energy Policy initiative," said a spokesperson for the department.

The meeting will run from 6 to 8 p.m. in BIOS Hanson Hall in St. George's tomorrow. Refreshments will be available.
