'No rift' at BFA

President of the Bermuda Football Association Richard Calderon yesterday denied there was a rift between himself and technical director Derek Broadley. Calderon said: "Media reports aired today have indicated that there is move afoot to remove Derek Broadley as technical director of the Bermuda Football Association and that a rift has developed between the technical director and myself as president. It must be categorically stated that Derek Broadley was hired by the BFA on a three-year contract and it is the intention that he will fulfill his contract in its entirety.

"It is important to also note that at no time has the executive council expressed any concerns or discussed any dissatisfaction regarding the performance of Derek Broadley. In fact, when one considers the association's Strategic Plan and the initiatives developed from the plan it is very clear that the technical director is and has been operating in accordance with mandates established by the Player Development Committee via the executive council.

"As president, I want to categorically state that there is no rift between Derek and me and nobody within the association or externally have sought my ear to remove Derek. I must also state that all employees of the association deserve at minimum the support and respect of the executive council and if there should be a case to answer regarding anyone's performance then certainly that will be a matter internally for the executive council.

"We have seen far too often situations such as what appears to be taking place whereby unnamed sources resort to erroneous and unsubstantiated claims."
