Belco warns post-hurricane work will mean daytime outages

While power has been restored to the Island following Hurricane Igor, Belco said yesterday that work on the electrical infrastructure would continue. A spokesperson for the company said that throughout October, homes and businesses may temporarily lose power during daylight hours as Belco continues its repairs.

The work is necessary because temporary repairs were made so that power could be restored as quickly as possible. Now power to neighbourhoods must be cut for safety.

While the company will work to notify residents as to when and where the outages will occur, the spokesperson warned that because workers will be moving from job to job, a definitive schedule could not be provided. However, commercial customers will be called.

Around 21,000 homes lost power across the Island as a result of Hurricane Igor.

The spokesperson said: "Belco appreciates the cooperation and support of customers as urgent post-hurricane work is done to maintain and enhance service reliability."
